THE RECONSTRUCTION OF CHRONIC OPEN TIBIA FRACTURE WITH COMPOSITE FIBULA AND SOFT TISSUE FREE VASCULARIZED GRAFT

Abstract
A common goal of plastic and reconstructive surgery is to provide ideal tissue replacement for defects, so too many donor site of free flaps were researched. Taylor had begun free fibular bone transfer in 1975. Serafin and Buncke developed free vascularized composite tissue transfer.
Currently, the combined free fibula and soft tissue transfer in case of extensive bone soft tissue defect in lower extremity tried in foreign country and the successful results were reported. So we tried 2 cases of chronic open tibia fractures with semisoleus muscle combined free fibular composite graft and free fibular osteoseptocutaneous flap and the results were promising.
This paper presents our experiences in handling those who required complete replacement of composite bone and soft tissue defect in lower extremity.
